For those of you who may not know me, my name is Andy, and I play drums in a band called The Things They Carried. We're from Long Island, NY, and we started playing music together in March 2009.
In the begining of July 2009, we released our first E.P., titled "Attention Crisis." We were all very thrilled about our new product, and it was now time to promote ourselves and let everyone know who we were.

To this day, I think we did a great job with this record, and I think Jake Antelis (Producer) did a fine job with this record as well. Unfortunately, the reviews and reactions to this E.P. were mixed. Well, people DID like the recording.. However..
First Show Ever
Our live show just wasn't grabbing people's attention. People would literally "clear the place out" as we used to say. It was time for a change...
We took all constructive critism very seriously, and with an open mind. We completely rewrote all five songs on the E.P., plus wrote five brand new additional songs to match our new sound..
This new sound was much different. We took what were catchy, single-worthy alternative rock songs and made them Metal. When we played live, the reactions we got were significantly better. Instead of walking away during our set, fans would be glued to the stage the whole 25 minutes we performed. Then, they would RUSH as quickly as possible to our merch table to buy a shirt, sign the mailing list, buy an E.P. ... uh oh.
The sound on "Attention Crisis" was COMPLETELY different than these new and improved songs we were playing. It was at this point that we decided it was time to record a full length record.
We hooked up with Producer Casey Bates, who had previously recorded bands like Chiodos, Pierce the Veil, Fall of Troy, and more.. July 5th 2010, we were on our way to Seattle, WA. Our new home for the next 21 days..

The result:

"There's Something I Can't Tell Anyone" is a record that talks about a lot of things we can all relate to, for example divorce, abuse, depression, violence. Mosely (Track 4) tells the story of Kitty Genovese. The songs discuss "the things we carry with us." Stories about events that happen to us in which we will never forget.
In October 2010, we met up with Directer Scott Hansen (A Day To Remember, We Came As Romans) and shot our music video for the first single: 364 Day Anniversary
We are now working very hard to promote our music, and to show the whole world who The Things They Carried is.
Lyrics to "364 Day Anniversary"
What happens when two lovers meet for the first time at a bar
Love at first sight, love at first sight.
Fast Forward 10 months as the ship begins to sink, who would have thought this could happen from a drink
Going back and forth it's like a never ending fight, and I ask you, why we have to go our separate ways.
Chorus- Memories of a tragic love affair, casual goodbyes and simple words, all that's left is a broken piece of me, this feeling can't describe my black despair.
We shared all our secrets and our dreams
wrote you a thousand letters
and in the rain in the morning I ask you why, why we have to go our separate ways.
Chaos, chemistry, bonds, broken Failed, and every day I wake up in this pail reality!
Chorus- Memories of a tragic love affair, casual goodbyes and simple words, all that's left is a broken piece of me, this feeling can't describe my black despair.
Sitting in the avenue, blood like milk in the street
Our hope starts to slowly dissolve, blood like milk in the street...
Chorus- Memories of a tragic love affair, casual goodbyes and simple words, all that's left is a broken piece of me, this feeling can't describe my black despair.
This is my black despair!

Shoutout to Chris Owyoung for his amazing photography work!
I would love to hear comments, questions, and input from you guys. If you have a topic you'd like me to write about, please let me know.
Like I said, I'm new to this, so for example, I can't figure out how to post the videos on the blog, rather than links to the videos. So, any help with stuff like that would be greatly appreciated. Oh wow, I wrote quite a lot here, I think I might need to go lay down now. lol, talk to you soon!
